Faster Way to Upload Videos to YouTube

Faster Way to Upload Videos to YouTube Photoshop | Faster Way to Upload Videos to YouTubeAre you tired and frustrated of YouTube videos taking soooo long to upload?   For me, video uploading was the slowest part of my online video creation process and it was driving me nuts! I wasn’t the only one apparently.  My friend Shelly Allen was frustrated with YouTube because it was taking her 30 mins to upload a 4 minute video.  Time is precious so I knew there must be a faster way…and there is.  This video will show you how to save yourself hours of upload time without sacrificing the quality of your videos.

The secret to speeding this is up is to use a video converter to convert your videos to a format significantly smaller in size (without losing quality), before uploading it to YouTube. There are many video converters out there, but I highly recommend a free video converter called MPEG Streamclip. It is very simple to use, available for Mac or PC, and will create a small yet high quality .mp4 YouTube-friendly video file.

Depending on your computer, the video converting process make take a few mins, but is worth the wait. The advantage is that the video convert happens on your computer and is not affected by the speed of quality of your Internet connection and the resulting file is significantly smaller and will take a lot less time to upload to YouTube.

As a bonus, this video converter can also be used to convert between various video file formats (MOV, AVI, MP4, etc) which may come in handy when editing your videos in certain video editing software packages.

Are you frustrated with slow YouTube uploads? Tell me about how long it takes for your videos to upload to YouTube in the comments below.

    Hey Hani,

Thanks for sharing this free video converter tool. You have a great video blog!

Question: Is it wise to run the videos from your host server or from YouTube?

    Chat with you later…
    Josh

  • http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com Hani

    Hey Josh,

Thanks again for dropping in and for the kind words.

To answer your question, it depends on what the purpose of the video is. If you want the video to be seen by the world and gain maximum visibility, then YouTube is the best, fastest, and cheapest way to do this. I also suggest you use the free TubeMogul service to automatically post the videos to other video sharing sites as well:

    http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com/7-most-common-mistakes-people-make-with-online-marketing-video-part7/

If you have a membership-type site or want only members of your blog/website to see your videos, then you definitely need to host them on your server. This is not as tricky as it seems at first (there are a few extra steps that YouTube does for you that you would have to do manually when posting the video on your own site. In short, these steps are:

    1. Converting your video to FLV or MP4 so it can quickly and efficiently stream on a website.

    2. Put your video on a fast server (ideally not the same server that you have your blog or website on since it might slow down them down as well). I highly recommend the Amazon S3 service…it is extremely cheap, reliable, and fast.

    3. You need a video player on your blog or website to play the actual video. WordPress has a great plugin called “Flash Video Player” which lets you play your own hosted videos (and YouTube videos as well)

Would you be interested in a video tutorial that walks you through all the steps to having your videos hosted on your own server (what I like to call “Private videos”)

Hey Trish…nice to see you again. You’re most welcome.

I’m all for helping people save time. I know how frustrating it is to wait, especially since most Internet providers have slow upload speeds when compared to download speeds.

    Cheers,

    Hi there Hani

Thanks for the tip here – I’m preparing a powerpoint presentation and have selected a youtube vid for including on a slide. I use mediaconverter to get it to wmv file. When I saw the size of it I almost fell of my chair – 95.4MB, I thought this would never do, especially if I want to send the ppp to someone via email.

Your tip to decrease the size of the file seemed to be the answer, but having installed the Square 5 software I find that .wmv file is not supported! So back to square one.

Can you suggest what my next move should be?

  • http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com Hani

Hi Rhianne…you like to challenge me don’t you :) That’s ok, I like to help solve problems, so it’s all good.

Ok, first question, is Windows Media Player able to play your .wmv file?

Here are a few things to try:
    1. Install the FFDShow video codecs and try again – http://www.ffdshow.info and try again
    2. Is MediaConverter able to export your PPT in a format called MOV or MP4 or .H264?
    3. Try a different PPT to Video converter. There is an excellent one free one here: http://www.acoolsoft.com/powerpoint-to-video-overview.html – Set the output to MOV + .H264.

As a last resort, you can upload your WMV to YouTube and send the link to your friend to watch there.

One of these options will solve your problem…let me know how it works out.

    Cheers,
    Hani

    Hey Hani!

    Sheesh…

    Better late than NEVER!

    I just watched YOUR vid!

    THANKS for the TIP…;)

  • http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com Hani

No problemo Shelly….thanks asking the question and inspiring me to create this video :)

[..YouTube..] @IsraelyToons You’re very welcome. I’m glad I could help. I hope it worked for you.

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=IsraelyToons IsraelyToons

[..YouTube..] can you please make a video on “how to upload video more than 10 minutes”

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=hanimourra hanimourra

[..YouTube..] @IsraelyToons Sorry for the late response. The only way to do this is to split the long video into 10 minute videos. You can use the same program in this video (MPEGStreamClip) to do this:
    1. Just move the play progress bar to where you want the video to start and press ‘i’ (IN)
    2. Move the play progress bar to where you want the video to end and press ‘o’ (OUT)
    3. Then when you export the .mp4, it will only export what is between the IN and OUT

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=hanimourra hanimourra

[..YouTube..] Now if you want the videos to play one after the other, you need to create a playlist and add the videos to it:

    1. Click on your username on the top right and choose MY VIDEOS
    2. Click on the NEW button on the left and choose New Playlsit
    3. Go back to MY VIDEOS, choose the videos, and click ADD TO button
    4. Choose the playlist you just created.

    Hope this helps.

  • faizal

    Hi Hani,

Thanks for this great info. I already download and used it. But something funny happened.

i have i video in mp4,size 17.03mb but when i convert it using this tool, the size increase to 20mb++…any suggestion?

    Thanks

  • http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com Hani

    Hi Faizal…

Great question. Since the original video file is mp4, it is most likely already compressed to the small size and should upload fairly quickly. If you want to try to make the file a little bit smaller without sacrificing the video quality, try settings the option called “limit data rate” to “3000″ Kbps when you export your mpeg4 file.

Let me know if that makes a difference.

    Cheers,
    Hani

  • faizal

hi Hani..thanks for your quick reply…
i tried the setting you wrote..unfortunately it double up the size from 17mb to 34mb….it’s would be great if you can help me solved this issue..

p/s – Thanks a lot for recommended me this tool..you are awesome man!!

  • http://www.easyonlinevideotips.com Hani

@Faisal usually mp4 files are compressed and made as small as possible without significantly degrading the quality of the video. If this software is making the files bigger than the original, then most likely the file is as small as it can be. 17 MB file is not large at all for a video. How ling is the video?

    Cheers,
    Hani

[..YouTube..] Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this! It was taking me more than 3 hours to upload a 10 minute video. My latest (7:42) when I first tried uploading was told 254 mins to load. Went through your instructions, and now just have 37 minutes to wait. THANK YOU!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=cenationextreme11 cenationextreme11

[..YouTube..] do we need to change the quality to 100% or not….

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=hanimourra hanimourra

[..YouTube..] @cenationextreme11 I don’t think it is necessary. You won’t really notice the video quality difference between 50% and 100%….but the 100% quality will make the video file larger, which will take longer to upload.

    Cheers,
    Hani
